Ballet is the base of all dance styles. It is good for gaining strength and stamina. It is one of the most popular styles as it helps with all genres of dance as it is so demanding on the body.
We follow the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teacher of Dancing) syllabus as it one of the most recognised in the country and children can start our syllabus classes from the age of 5 years old.
The ISTD (Imperial Society of Teacher of Dancing) Tap syllabus is always a hit with our children. It focuses on fun and laid back amalgamations whilst teaching your child the importance of rhythm and musicality. Children can be entered for this exam once they have turned 5 years old.
Modern dance is a firm favourite with all of our students of all ages. The style goes hand in hand with Jazz and Musical Theatre and moves such as, 'step ball change', kicks, leaps and turns are often used. Children at TPA can be entered for modern Exams once they turn 5 years old.
Our street dance classes are extremely popular and we cater for children aged 5 – 18 years old. Children start off in our junior class where, as well as simple moves and routines, they learn basic breakdance tricks such as baby freezes, helicopters, waves and tutting. The choreography then gets a little more complex as they moves up to our pre-senior class and more pattern work and formations are used in dances.
Commercial is a strong and sexy style with elements of street and sometimes jazz. A lot of the dancers on music videos and MTV are classed as commercial dancers. Routines will be danced to the latest pop, r’n’b and chart music. This style is introduced into our senior street classes.
A go-to-class for any dramatic young people in your family! We focus on singing, working on harmonies and breathing technique, dancing, basic jazz/musical theatre dancing and acting where we learn extracts from various musicals/shows such as: Matilda, Annie, Seussical, The Sound of Music, etc. These classes are really fun and are great for children who would like to build on their confidence. Our juniors tend to work in groups, our pre-seniors in pairs, and our seniors learn monologues, as well as solo singing.
At TPA we train our singers the correct breathing technique, vocal anatomy and warm up techniques. We explain theory work, how to interpret a song vocally, and how to perform to an audience. Each student has their own singing portfolio with specially chosen songs to suit their individual voices.
In our private dance lessons we teach, strength, flexibility and stamina. Students taking private dance lessons are often part of our competition team and perform various solos, duets and trios at festivals across the North West. They learn advanced tricks and moves.
Acrobatic dance, or acro as it is commonly referred to by dance professionals, is the fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. Acro is an especially challenging style for dancers to master as training in both dance and acrobatic elements is required. Acro technique includes balancing, limbering, tumbling and partnering, based in flexibility, contortion and strength.
The cheekiest classes of the week are our 3 – 4 year old classes. They learn the basics of ballet, tap and modern through various themes and adventures, whilst also developing their social skills, learning how to create patterns and formation and how to follow instructions. Our class is 45 minutes long and is always very well received.
Our 2 year class is 30 minutes long and is pay-on-the-door each week. Within the class we focus on balance, musicality and special awareness. This exciting and engaging class for both boys and girls, is an enjoyable weekly activity for parents to join in with their children.
My Daughter’s favourite two nights of the week are Mondays and Thursdays as these are the nights she attends The Performance Academy in New Mills. Originally beginning with Street Dance and Musical Theatre, she now attends Ballet, Tap, Modern and singing lessons too. The teachers are enthusiastic and driven to help their students achieve their full potential, whatever individual level that may be. It is a great way to develop confidence, enjoy exercise and make new friends. My Daughter has never looked back since joining.”Helen Heery
A big thank you to you & your staff for all your hard work. Your studio space is beautiful & your enthusiasm to teach really shines through. Bea loves her Saturday class & gives us lots of lovely demos when she gets home. She is learning so much with you and it is great to see her develop in both technique and confidence. We are really looking forward to your next show & hope you are deservedly proud of all you have accomplished”Claire Hirons
